GAME OF LIFE OF THE BOY VUK JOVANOVIĆ

Five year old boy Vuk Jovanovic lives with his parents and older brother Bogdan in the settlement of  Delijski Vis in Municipality of Palilula. What sets it apart from its peers is that instead of a carefree childhood, Vuk suffers from a rare disease which is diagnosed as NEK-bowel resection. After five operations that Vuk had at the Institute for Mother and Child in Belgrade, his colon and most of the small intestines were removed. He had his first surgery at an age of five months, and then three failed attempts of surgery on his kidney. The struggle for life continues. According to the report of doctors, Vuk is a medical phenomenon, because he is  practically the only patient in Europe that had the worst form of the disease and survived with this diagnosis. This boy needs special care, treatment and specific diet.

It's hard for me to talk and describe a situation in which this family is. I call upon all business people in our community, socially responsible companies, politicians, to join in the action. We as a municipality will provide this family one-off grant to help and we will do everything within our control - says Boban Džunić, president of Palilula, who visited family Jovanovic along with his associate, Zlatko Semic. In this case we will need a systematic solution. We as a community can organize a campaign to collect donations but those are periodic activities-said President Džunić.

We should consider adequate opportunities for institutions such as "Pcelica", founded by the city, in granting subsidies for accommodation for a boy who has a high degree of disability."We purchased food and milk from abroad as well as therapy. We were managing our needs in every way possible so that we can provide him with all this, so there is a drag of the debts from that period. But we are fighting for him-says Jelena Jovanovic, mother of five year old Vuk. We need financial help, because we drag debts from the time of initial surgery. Vuk needs the necessary treatment and specific diet and all of this is mostly coming from abroad. We would like to thank the staff of the Institute for Mother and Child which saved Vuk, and president of Municipality of Palilula Boban Dzunic which is the first in Nis to anticipate and offered to help.

According to Jelena Jovanovic, Vuk has to go once again to Belgrade for treatment at the Institute of Mother and Child, because this treatment is not performed in the health facilities in Nis. Journalist were introduced about this rare disease of small Vuk Jovanovic and municipal activities in helping with appropriate medical treatment and support for families of those two boys. Due to high infection of the intestine at birth (NEK bowel resection, perforated necrotic enterokolit) very rapidly developed a small plaque by the small intestine while the patient was having completely damaged colon and part of the small intestine. After the surgery the boy was living for 18 months with infusion and this period of his life he was with his mother at the Institute. Vuk is now with his family in Nis. At the suggestion of doctors, for the benefits of socialization of an individual, they enrolled him in kindergarten. It is fairly well accepted nursery. I want to thank you and kindergarten teachers who are taking really good care of him, said his mother, Jelena. However, we are not satisfied with the treatment of the institution "Pcelica", which is not accepting that Vuk is a child with 80 percent disability, so we are forced to pay regular price at the kindergarten. It is quite a lot for us in this situation. I talked with the president of Municipality about that.

Jelena Jovanovic and her husband Dejan, except for a five-year old son Vuk Jovanovic, have a nine year old Bogdan who is a great student of the primary school "Branko Miljkovic." The brothers are together now, they both like football, cartoons, have new friends, family love and immense sacrifice of their parents.
